Quiet, Observant, Clever
Photography has been a huge part of my life for close to 30 years. When I enter someone's life as a photographer, I think of myself as a documentarian more than anything else. I want to be a fly on the wall and have as small of an effect on my subjects as possible.
Being an ally to the queer community means recognizing that everyone's love is different, and no one should be judged or oppressed because their love differs from “the norm.” I'm raising two kiddos and hope that I can teach them to be accepting of everyone they meet. This commitment is deeply personal.
In my own life, I have found a unique connection and opportunity to lean into the intersection of queer families and neurodivergent families. As a partner and parent to autistic people and a parent of a queer child, I deeply understand what it means to meet people where they are and adapt a portrait session to their specific needs. I find that my style of candid photography lends itself perfectly to these individuals and families, especially because this population sometimes struggles with the burden of perception. By focusing on honest, fly-on-the-wall documentation, I remove the pressure to perform and instead capture them in their element.
*Ben specializes in candid photography. Meeting people where they are and where they like to be and capturing them in their element.
